Seget Donji tourist information

According to historical sources, the place was built in 1564 with the purpose of the protecting and defending the population from the village of Trogir from the Turkish threat. Along the coast near Trogir a castle was raised, that is a rectangular fortified settlement with four towers and three city entrance. Shortly after its construction, the castle was inhabited by people from the village hinterland between the 16th and 17th centuries. It is important to point out that Seget castle is not the only fortification of this kind in this area, but merely part of a series of defensive fortifications from the times of the Turks that are placed along the coast from Split and Trogir area during the 15th and 16th centuries. The center of the castle is dominated by the Baroque Church of Our Lady of the Rosary was built at the beginning of the second half of the 18th century.

Visitors who choose to take a look  at village Seget Donji, will experience a numerous cultural, historical and natural places. Old stone houses, some of which are restaurants, most have been renovated or updated. Staying within the core of the castle is particularly pleasant during the hot summer months when its residents and visitors are hidden in pleasant shade.

There’s a small old port for boats which today many local fisherman use as start base for fishing, while in the vicinity of the harbor there are several restaurants and cafes. In the old harbor you can often see local people returning from fishing. Around the village there are many agricultural treasures where you can see how are products are grown and taken care of.

Outside the core of the castle to the west, the long walking trail is taking you along many sandy and pebble beaches. Also, there is pier for boats that connects Seget with surrounding islands Drvenik Mali and Drvenik Veliki, Trogir and Split.

It is expected that Seget it will continue to develop in a pleasant tourist resort intended for summer holiday, for those who, in addition to clean sea, sun and Dalmatian cuisine, desire more peace.
